This is the reason I don't agree with getting rid of the downvote option. I especially don't think we should get rid of the downvote option for the comments. Usually when someone is trolling, the comments are the most vicious.

I think if you get rid of the downvote option anyone will be free to harass and abuse other users who just want to have some fun on here. And since the mods don't seem to do much in the way of stopping abusive users and don't seem to do anything about the abuse of multiple profiles, we as users need a way to combat the trolls. And the downvote option is the best option we have right now.

I think you're right about the Mods. Looks like they don't want to get their hands dirty at all, and decide to let us fend for ourselves.

For the most part, yes. Sometimes they do change things if enough users complain about it. But only if they think it'll be worth it.

Fair point but there is one advantage trolls have. They can do a mass downvote attack on you without ever revealing themselves. Even if you want to down vote them back you don't always know who they're.

Memes that harrass or attack users are breaking the Terms. That is what the flag is for. imgflip.com/terms I guess you could say the same thing about the flag, trolls abuse it and we need it. I'm all for modification of the system to minimize the ability to abuse the system.

If you want your ultra happy fake environment where everyone's supportive of your fake life, and nobody's ever allowed to downvote you, then go to facebook. This is not that place.

We're simply asking that a option used solely for the purpose of hate and attack be taken away. That is a big difference from that of a "ultra happy fake environment". :)

Nope, it's the same thing. You want to suppress people's emotions that you don't want to have to deal with via your actions.

You can't tell exactly, but you can work it out by comparing the votes and creation times of those that is above it.

eg: If you have 5 votes for a newly featured submission and you see a meme that you you know to be at least 1 day old above you with only 3 votes, then you've definitely been downvoted.

Also remember that their is always a delay in updating the ranks, so an hour later the ranking could be changed even if there is no change in the votes. :)

You could only downvote trolls if you know who they're. Many are hiding in the shadows sniping good users with downvotes and never revealing themselves.

Although I agree the downvote is abused, getting rid of it means that there won't be any way for users to downvote a comment that is uncalled for and trollish in nature. And the flagging feature is also abused on this site. Anyone who "hates" another user can flag their memes and ruin the other user's reputation on here even if they didn't do anything wrong. This happens a lot on political and religious memes that make crybabies diapers get twisted. If anything, the flagging feature should end, but in my opinion the downvote feature is fine as it is.

Back in 2015 they removed the downvote bar that literally showed every downvote the meme received. They did this to curb some of the trolling and at first seemed to work well, but as trolls go, they adapt and find other ways to troll.

That sounds more logical to me, yes. I won't make any meme about it, but I'll support your effort and wish you good luck on it. The mods don't interact much on here.

I can't say I agree. While I don't agree with using the downvote wantonly, it should still be an option. Restricting the freedom of expression of said cowards and trolls is never worth restricting everyone else's freedom of expression. Otherwise you're just in a safespace echo chamber where no one is allowed to disagree.

...And if we take the downvote option away from the trolls and malcontents, they'll continue to troll with memes and comments... And then we'll want the downvote button back to fight them

People can still disagree, simply but not upvoting.
