Jesus said that He came to replace the laws that David lived under. That said, He took a whip to the money changers in the temple.

He could have done much worse, he used enough force to change behavior.

Symbols often have several meanings.
You ask me to respect your symbol, but could you respect my view of the same symbol?

It depends, if your views are ok with limiting others from talking to Christians, building safe places from them, ripping up their Bibles and throwing things at them then no. If you say let them do as they will as long as it harms no one, then yes.

So in essence you ask me to respect the law?
