The catch is, both groups really have the right to self defense, rights are equal. IDK where the bottom one was shot, but it could easily be one of several countries we have invaded unilaterally and occupied for a decade. If anyone did that to us, it would be pretty surprising if no Americans started doing the same as the top group too.
I agree with the principle violence is wrong (per your title), but I believe in the right to self defense. (Of course that would go for the pigs in the meme above too ;-) ).
