I do karaoke, I often thought about trying stand-up. Even when as far as coming up with a routine. Like writing material down. Never got the courage or the time to do it. Comedy clubs do open mikes, but it's during the weekdays, which I understand why.

I do everyone a favor by not singing. I wanted to be a comic growing up. This is as close as I'll get. A friend made it to the semi-finals of Last Comic Standing, even headlining here and there locally in a major city isn't enough to pay the bills.

I was influenced at first with "The Unknown Comic" and Gallagher. That's cool about your friend. And I heard you really have to hustle or love it to keep at it. I think you need a gimmick. If you look at successful comics, they all have individual gimmick. Like Jeff Foxworthy.

I don't think it's so much a gimmick as it is something unique or a calling card. My friend, who has since moved to L.A. and is climbing the ranks, certainly goes on stage with a unique personality!

Your right, I shouldn't call it a gimmick. I hope he makes it big.

He's got the drive to do it. I'm obviously biased but I've seen him 5 or 6 times and he's improved dramatically from the first time I saw him. I thought he should have made the finals, but I can understand the judges' critiques too. Now that he can work on it "full time" I'm looking forward to seeing where his career goes.

I think it helps to be around others in the business. It's like anything else, you learn on the job. I don't know why I don't watch comedy show. I'm missing out.
