First you choose your first template, then you click the "add image" tab...choose "below current image" and then choose another template either by clicking "upload meme" (which allows you to choose your own images) or by clicking "search memes" (which allows you to choose imgflip templates)...be aware that if you choose search memes, you will need to know part of the name of the template you want to use. It's that simple.
You make chain memes by repeatedly adding images below the current image...don't know if there's a limit or not but my meme used 60 images.
If you choose the "inside current image" tab, you can insert memes or other pics inside your meme.
It's advisable to wait until you have all your images in place before you start adding text boxes because every time you add another image, your text boxes get reset. Hope this helps you out.
