I live in ultra-liberal Canada where words come and go out of style with great regularity it seems. I'm 40 and in that time, "Native Americans" have gone from being "Natives" to "First Nations" to "Aboriginals" to "Indigenous People," and that's just as long as I've been paying attention, yet ironically the law dealing with the them is still called the "Indian Act." Go figure. No one knows what label to use but of course they get insulted if you use the "wrong" one. "Orientals" don't like that term any more either, they want to be called "Asian," and I've never heard it called "Oriental food," it's called by whatever country it's from...Chinese food, Thai food, Japanese, etc.
