Reading that story made me want to bang my head against a wall

I tried to find the story you're talking about. During the search, I found out that the food Southern white people serve is called "southern food" and when Southern black people serve the same food, it's "soul food", as if only black people have souls. And some publication called pastemagazine claims whites gentrified southern food! The hatred is getting ridiculous!

It is getting very ridiculous indeed!

But you can see how someone can misunderstand if the same food served by whites is called "southern" and if served by blacks it's called "soul". And some blacks like to refer to whites as devils, so there is already a precedent for some people in one group to think the other group lacks a soul. I really would like to understand the use of the word "soul" in describing the food, if you could enlighten me :)
