I'm from a city of millions, we moved here to the wife's hometown in 2000 because it was cheaper and safer to buy a house and have kids.
Point being while there, I worked with/had a large and ethnically diverse group of friends. A lot (my best bud I told you about) were Italians, and they do love nicknames!

Italians are cool people. Treat you like family! I like having all different friends like that. I don't blame you for moving. We still haven't settled down anywhere yet. Houses here are pretty out of our budget so we will move at least once more if we ever buy something.

This is a city about an hour and 15 from where I'm from, but it's surrounded by farms. It has gotten much better in 17 years with more minority's moving here. I do like it and being able to drive 5 minutes and I'm in the country. But I've worked with some pretty racist rednecks. Actually you made me think of rednecks ( not in s bad way obviously they aren't all the same) when you mentioned your friends. See I get called that a lot because I've been here so long. I bought my Bass pro shop hat and assimilated myself. In a joking way though right.

There's a lot of racism in the south but Charleston seems to be really like a melting pot. Everyone is kind to each other around here. I grew up in a more mixed area in ga so I'm lucky. Hawaiians were racist towards me but I figured out why. Then we moved to Wyoming and I couldn't deal. They seemed to hate anyone not white.

Unfortunately. I'd go with North Korea.
It's gotten better here. A lot is dealt toward the Natives, there's a large reservation close by. I admit some stereotypes are a little truthful. When a Chevy truck is stolen (it happens s lot. My neighbors lost two) 9 times out of 10 it turns up on he Rez, either burnt or in the river.

So much of that is because of poverty, lack of education, opportunities. It's really sad.
