The odd irony of your choice is that Cascade is right across from what used to be my favorite taproom, the Green Dragon. Not so much since Rogue decided to turn it into a 'regular' taproom and they went from 53 different taps to 30 Rogue taps and 19 independent taps. Nothing wrong with Rogue at all, but I was addicted to the massive selection. Nobody has near 53 selections anymore. :P

I knew you would have a story, that's kinda funny, but you are a man who obviously knows Portland well! I would rather have independent taps any day than 30 choices of any one single brewer's kind. It seems too limiting to me, the differences between the brewer's themselves is what makes enjoying beer interesting, much less the differences of the styles made by a single brew house, don't you agree?(well, in part maybe?) :)

Yeah, definitely. I go for my diversity in breweries rather than styles, though that is interesting to pursue as well. I like Rogue beers - they have a couple recently that are really good - but they do tend to be more concerned with branding than with uniqueness. Unless I'm going to a specific brewery's tasting room, I'd like to have different taps and those taps rotating fairly quickly, which is what I like about The Civic taproom 3 minutes walk from my dock.There are a couple bar managers I've spoken too recently that refuse to stock Rogue beers because of the corporate nature of the company. I find that stupid because the head brewer at Rogue is an Oregon legend and they do well enough; just too many puritans. :P
