Actually I meant 'are'. The 'staggering' pun works better in the plural. And still comes close enough to satisfy most grammar nazis. :)

'Are' applies to the word 'numbers', whereas 'is' would apply to 'drunks'. 'Is staggering' sounded clunky. MOST non-grammar nazis would get it. Are we going to have a grammar flame war, Octavia? XD XD
