I want to agree with you, however;

One side wants to eliminate history, even repulsive ones like monuments to the old Confederacy, and the other wants to eliminate anyone who isn't a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. I'm against both, but it's obvious who's truly worse here.

Be that as it may, that only reinforces my opinion that it is not an equivalent situation to America and Germany being equally responsible for WWII, I don't think anyone ever blamed the USA for WWII, at least in this case, it is irrefutable there is culpability on both sides, even if unbalanced.
