I don't know yhe specifics of the arguement this originated from so....
While whether birthright citizenship is appropriate or even guaranteed is up for debate, at this point in time the courts have consistently upheld birthright citizenship. So, at this point in time, if one is born to illegal immigrants on U.S. soil, they are citizens. This could change at some point in the future, but as of now, this is the reality.

This is the legal text: "A person may derive or acquire U.S. citizenship at birth. Persons who are born in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States are citizens at birth." When you are born in the US and subject to the jurisdiction of the US (which you are, if you are on US territor and not, for example, born in an embassy), you are a US citizen - at least as I read the text (an US lawyer should confirm my understanding, of course)!
