One Does Not Simply

I don't understand, if there are documented cases of children being born as hermaphrodites, then why is it hard to think the sex of humans might have more gray area than once believed.

Hermaphrodites are really rare, and I believe are outside of the gender debate. Science says that sex is determined, not by body parts, but by chromosomes. And Science says that there are 2 and only 2 sexes. And if someone identifies as something other than one of those 2 sexes, it seems to me that it is a mental disorder. Just my humble opinion.

I should add that in the case of hermaphrodites, a sex is indeed determined, and it is based upon science, and that science is in examining chromosomes.

But what about people with different chromosomes? Like a woman who finds out that she has a Y. But she should not be able to have a Y chromosome. Or is that too rare. And even if something is rare can we just dismiss it as not science? I'm going off of a genetics class I took like 20 years ago, I'm not an activist or anything, but just from my point of view it seems more likely that it is not always just one thing or the other.

A person who has XX chromosomes is a male. A person who has XY chromosomes is a Female. If someone who looks like a woman has XY chromosomes, that person is a male.

Now, is it possible for someone with XY chromosomes to have female genitalia? Throughout history there have been countless freaks of nature who are born. Some are conjoined twins, some have other deformities. And it is probably true that somewhere in the annals of history there was a person (perhaps more than 1) who had XY chromosomes and female genitalia. Those freaks of nature had genetic mutations. But those freaks of nature have nothing to do with people who simply 'Identify With' a gender other than what is in their chromosomes.
I'll repeat that those people, who are not freaks of nature, but who simply 'Identify with' a sex other than male or female have a mental disorder.

Now I am a 5'6" overweight male in his 60's, and I identify with being an NBA player. Does my identifying as an NBA basketball player make me an NBA player in reality? Certainly not. There is reality, and there are mental disorder fantasies.

#1 - there is no set 'science'; science is in a constant state of flux, always changing as more facts are entered into the equation.

#2 - this country's greatness is based on freedom, and if someone wants to be something other than what someone else insists they call themselves what the f**k is it to me?
