I would say that in 36 years I have seldom seen this in practice. Most of the time I see buildings locked up all week until Sunday AM. But I am sure it is being done somewhere.

I had a part time job as a janitor at a Methodist church for a few years. The doors opened at 6:00A.M. until about 10:00 P.M. every day. They truly gave back to the community. There were English classes for refugees who just got here, legal assistance and support to become citizens, always meal events for the homeless, renting out halls for small churches who didn't have a building, after school programs for kids whos parents wouldn't be home when they got out of school.
