Excuse me, but IIRC, every time I was called for jury duty, it was minimum wage pay. If the court offers you $10/day, you have a class action law suit that will have the courts heads spinning. I was at the courthouse 6 hours in '86, got $20. A few years later, when minimum wage went up, I ended up pocketing about $24 plus my employer paid my full wages for the day (Union contract: AT&T used it as a community service PR type thing)
If you're self employed, run a company, or have a job that cannot be doled out, you can request to be excused. Your summons should have something to that effect on it. Don't know why they turned me down the second time I was called, but the first time I was called, the judge excused me because I was on crutches and had to postpone a meeting with voc-rehab to be at the courthouse. Damn, I was a good citizen. but the judge and lawyers both gave me a pass because I was trying to better my circumstances.
