On the plus side... maybe I'll get an interesting trial, but I doubt it.

No disrespect. My brother had a warrant out for his arrest because he had an unpaid ticket for "no fishing licence"

No worries. That seems a little extreme, usually suspending your liscene gets your attention. I guess depending on province or state.

I think he went into the detachment to get a criminal record check, and they arrested him because the "no fishing licence" popped up. It's not like it was manhunt or anything, but there was an active warrant out for him. And now I'm always nervous when I have to get my own criminal record checks at the cop shop.

I remember those days, going to the cop shop for a check up. Now here in Manitoba, the cops have scanners on their cars to scan liscence plates for suspended or wanted drivers, my ex cousin in law who is on probation has a 10 pm curfew, but hes got two company trucks, and when one of his workers is driving after 10 pm he always gets pulled over cus its registered to the ex cousin. Fortunately my days of nafarious activities are done. That and I have cops for clients and poker buddies.

From what I've heard, if you have obligations like work or family, you can be excused. Unless of course, you want jury duty ;)

I am overloaded at work, but I don't think I'm gonna be able to get out of it, lol.

If I had to serve, all it would mean would be that I may not be able to post memes for a while. I never had a problem with serving, but they chose against me. Even when I told the judge that I could really use the money. LOL.

They say I'd get paid $10 dollars a day. They say crime doesn't pay? Well apparently it pays more than justice, haha.

Excuse me, but IIRC, every time I was called for jury duty, it was minimum wage pay. If the court offers you $10/day, you have a class action law suit that will have the courts heads spinning. I was at the courthouse 6 hours in '86, got $20. A few years later, when minimum wage went up, I ended up pocketing about $24 plus my employer paid my full wages for the day (Union contract: AT&T used it as a community service PR type thing)

If you're self employed, run a company, or have a job that cannot be doled out, you can request to be excused. Your summons should have something to that effect on it. Don't know why they turned me down the second time I was called, but the first time I was called, the judge excused me because I was on crutches and had to postpone a meeting with voc-rehab to be at the courthouse. Damn, I was a good citizen. but the judge and lawyers both gave me a pass because I was trying to better my circumstances.

Well, I live in Kansas, and I guess they don't compensate us as much; because my letter says Jurors in the State of Kansas get paid $10 a day and .52 cents a mile if we're driving long distance. I work for my father in construction, and he got called in for Jury Duty about a couple months ago. We were literally just breaking ground on a big project and the judge excused him. We're still in the middle of that project, but I'm not sure if they'll be as lenient on me, but we'll see. I guess somebody's got to be a juror, but I'm just so dang busy.

Sounds like the citizens of Kansas have to do some rethinking on this. You can try to get out of it, but if not, I'd discuss this with a lawyer. So far, I haven't seen anything in the Fair Labor laws that state that a juror is exempt from receiving the minimum wage. If you're selected, talk to a lawyer. As Kansas doesn't require employers to pay for time off for jury duty, the courts are pressing a hardship on you, regardless of your income. Might be a nice sum after it's all done. If you're salary, though, and your dad pays your for the time on the jury, oh well. You might want to look at this and decide what to do: https://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/01/22/just-compensation-for-jurors/?_r=0

But I think, because of your position with the company and the importance of the job and you being there, you may be excused.

I got called for jury duty once, except that it was via redirected mail which had my old address on it, so I was able to get out of it by living too far away.
