Yeah, if you're from a poor neighborhood things can be a bit sucky, and there was the stop an frisk issue - which was Mayor Guliani's doing, but overall things aren't so bad here. More good than bad.

When you see the president dispatch the feds, it means the local law enforcement will not enforce.

I was in a mafia neighborhood since I was 8.
Folks said they kept the place safe. But our house was robbed like three times over the years. Nothing major tho. Yay!

Well they do have a hierarchy, code of silence and all that. They protected their own in prisons. They also don't shiit where they live. It wasn't like stuff went down here and they forced people not to talk.
Ever see Summer of Sam? That was my world. Ok, they were more low key than Luigi there, but that was 1977 for me. The guy across the street went swimming in the East River in the mid 80s, and he never came back. He was a loan shark.
One of his daughter's weddings got called off when her arsonist loan shark fiance died in a fire he was setting. Someone I grew up with down the block is currently married to a racketeer. They live upstairs in the house she grew up in.
They are real. They still exist. This is what they do.

Athur Ave that I mentioned, AKA Belmont, is where a Bronx Tale took place. Chaz Plaminteri really grew up there and in that enviroment. He lived on E187th between Belmont and Cambreleng.

Tri-State, Florida, Nevada, pre-Revolution Cuba. They owned it.

Did they go around shooting each other in card games everyday? Course not.

Interesting. I remember the end of those days when I was a kid. By the late 80's to 90's that was all a thing of the past and movies. It then became the days of the rat. By then, what was left was more like a street gang and modtly kids, because the older guys were dead or locked up. There was almost no heirarchy and the code was snitch on everyone because the chances of getting whacked were so low. Most of the hype in the community was just that and came from the skanks that hooked up with the guys who were exaggerating everything based on movies from the 70's.

They committed the crimes. Hollywood may exaggerate things, but the basis is true. The neighborhood where I grew up and returned to was and is relatively safe. It's a middle class area, private houses. They may have been neutered to a degree and not what they used to be (insider trading, etc, is their current gig. Contract Albanians for dirty work, etc), but they still are the biggest criminal organization round, even with upcoming Russians, Chinese, and said Albanians.
Where I had an apartment for 20yrs, Arthur Ave, social clubs still abound, tho more Albanians than Italian. Bodegas won't sell pot round there like they do in other neighborhoods because the Mafia won't permit them, even tho Italians are shrinking in number there,,,

All I'll say is there were a handful of real killers, but the majority (and I have seen it with my own eyes) were the ass kissing wannabes who were first to run from any confrontation. It only takes one or two tough guy killers to keep everyone else in fear. But these guys are losers and their main business was keeping people from reporting crimes. Just because you and most others might jot have known, the other people you know couldve been seriously victims and you'd never even know it because they'd be too afraid to ever say a word. Once they locked up the real killers, it was the end of an era.

The old timers, those were immigrants, not much of that now. So the ways change.
There still are families operating.
And snitching, that little myth? None would have gone to jail going back to prohibition if that was true. THAT'S a myth. They wouldn't report each other, but once busted, most sang like Tweety on crack. The guy across the street who went swimming in the 80s was about to go to court, they weren't taking chances.

All that Cagney/Bogart cops robbers stuff is fantasy.

You go around Arthur, see the social clubs, old school still there, also Pelham Bay, Morris Park, etc,,,

Now a days its dead. The only thing left is legends from used up skanks telling stories to feel like they're important. The chances of a mobster making someone an offer they cant refuse are lower than the chances of getting shot by the police for running a red light. Now the only organized crime is the police who are on the take from the immigrants entering the country now (almost entirely from the middle east). By the 90's the new immgrants killed the last of the tough guys as soon as they tried to take protection money. The only reason we get mob wives is the guys are gone. The wannabes are all thats left. The legends, like guys who couldnt pass fifth grade cracking safes are just legends. You put a bug in a house, wait until you hear the combination, then break in when no one's home. Thats how it really works.

You're talking TCM movies and MTV 'reality' shows.
Middle Easterners not only come here legally, but many have their rent paid by the Goverment for 18 months, plus benefits,,,
0 ups, 7y
Nah, this was the last mob stronghold. The movies are romancing something that was never what the legends are. Most of them are little punks who run for their lives and lie about how tough they are to the bitches. And they'd have a few guys that they'd blow when they needed muscle. The police in the cities are all paid or afraid. The new Mid East immigrants (mostly NOT Muslim) own the police. They cover up the number of people being charged when it is a police enterprise. But if you read between the lines, they reference "hundreds" of people.

There was another bust last week of something that doesn't exist, you say? k.

And NYC cops are controlled by poor refugee - oh wait, their religion. I get you now. 'They' who control the world, *wink*

Goodness.
0 ups, 7y
I can assure you that they are not fighting crime by hanging outside my house everyday. That's your antiterrorism money going in the toilet. The Syrian refugees are actually buying up the entire upper east side. We have extremely wealthy "refugees" getting food stamps living in manhattan high rises. Trust me, anyone who's religion permits marrying 12 year old girls is paying off the police. Others are the guys responsible for every 12 or 13 year old's abortion in the area. I've seen it happen. They pretend to be protecting your kids and when they get indicted their wives statement to the newspaper is "I hope your wife gets raped by many men."

This is how the police protect the criminals in 2017.

I don't know where you get this stuff from, but this is Da Bronx? Not the now Russian Bensonhurst, and no, some Syrian Jews do not control the police,,,
The shoot em ups you keep referring to are from a 2 hr Hollywood movies covering 2 or 3 generations.
Reality don't work that way. The Mafia still is, for now at least. Skip tha Jersey Shore Mobwives TV crap. I'm talking REAL life here, not 'reality' TV,,,
0 ups, 7y
Where I live they do. And there was just another bust last week. The stuff happening in real life is nothing like the movies and TV. There's no mafia. Just crooked police and bribes from the refugees.
