Basically you have to make it in 24 hours or it's nearly impossible after that. That's why it's the front page of the "hot" pages. The number of upvotes themselves doesn't matter as much as how fast you get them. If a meme is getting more views/comments/upvotes than others in the same amount of time it becomes "hot" and can pass others with more of all 3 of those things if it gets them fast enough. People tend to think the front page is for the best memes on the site and not making it up there means your meme isn't good. I don't see things that way though, to me it just means that the meme got featured during a time that fans of that type of joke or whatever were online to upvote it. That's why it was so obvious to me when that guy was using all those alts to make everything he memed hit front page. If something instantly gets 10 upvotes when it features it's going to fly up front because the odds of that happening are slim in reality. Once you are up there it pretty much guarantees your meme of doing good, however not everything up there is guaranteed to be a good meme ;) If that makes any sense to anybody but me lol.
