I used to watch that show. I always thought they could have made the aliens look better, but it was still an interesting show. :{D

Holy crap it does look like that. DS9's Dax speceies the Trill had markings that reminded me of it too. :{O

Budget. That's why they cancelled the show. Good ratings, but production costs were high - makeup, street locations, all that. FOX then stuck with cheaper to make sitcoms.

Loved that show. Far wittier than a sitcom too.

Yeah when I think back on it, I do remember a lot of alien extras and large scenes. That couldn't have been too cheap.

From what I remember of it, yeah, they would cover deep topics often. The interspecies aspect being one. :{D

Racism, sexism, classism, even fatism were addressed. Gender issues too, including (EGADS!) what they nowadays call gender fluid issues - decades before social media made it cool.

One of the writers, she pushed for expanding women roles, and things like that third inter dude needed to procreate - that was her way of making that lady's fantasy a biological requirement, haha

A lot like Star Trek it was, with the parables. Also like Trek, above all was the bond between the characters. The show was about the alienation within us and the humanity that conquers that,,,

That's called preconditioning. They play shows about it for shock value while it isn't accepted to slowly ween you into it over time. Like they want the birth rate down.

Cool. And it's like that thing today about using 3 or more parents for the dna of a child.

I wonder how long till Hollywood reboots Alien Nation? :{O

The cool thing about sci fi that shows like that or Trek utilize is that social issues can be epxlored without seeming overtly preachy or whiny. Aliens can serve simultaneously as an "other," yet we can identify them too. Thus a more neutral inoffensive way of getting a message across. Aespop's fables for the modern age.

In terms of reboot, I think interest in the show has waned over the years? Obviously people love it still, but not as much as Star Trek or cult faves like Escape From New York. Plus nowadays, with a shrinking American audience for tickets, the focus has been on big splashy action movies to tap into the growing vast market of China, where audiences like less dialogue and more BOOMS!
Still, with story ideas running short and reboots beng the thing, maybe they might one day? That would be cool,,,

So I crossed my fingers and Googled for a reboot, and Wiki said one was planned in 2009 then cancelled, but as of 2015 another was in the works!
So hopefully, yeah, although the way these things go, I won't believe till I see it.
Look how long it took to do the latest planned Mad Max, and a new Escape From NY (which I hope they never do) has changed hands and plans so many times,,,

Yeah if they wanted a new Escape from... they should have been making them while Kurt was younger.

That's cool about the reboot. I would think SyFy would have done one at least. :{D

They keep switching directors and stars. They even considered that Shane actor from TWD. Him as Snake! Makes me wanna puke. Even 2 Brits, and a whole mess of others. The only one that seemed halfway decent was Timothy Olyphant, but he's not happening either now. Latest I heard was that Hauk was gonna be played by a woman. It takes place before the first, so the title is wrong too. Some movies should never be touched.

Yeah, looks like it'll be SyFy, so hopefully,,,

Oh, I think Babylon 5 too is getting rebooted!
