Caddyshack- Ted knight 1 | TANSTAAFL! THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE A PARK WHERE YOUR TAX DOLLARS COVER THE ENTIRE COST OF PARK USAGE IS NOT | image tagged in caddyshack- ted knight 1 | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Only one public park in my area charges an entrance fee. More than half the public parks provide grills. You get what you pay for, though.

In California, to BBQ at a public park, you have to get a permit (which is about $60). This is regardless of whether or not grills are provided. I discovered this while attempting to plan an inexpensive birthday party for my daughter.

Ouch. I'm in Indiana. Half the parks in the city have grills. The only time you need to pay a fee in the city is if you rent a pavilion.

I'll assume those permit fees are to keep the homeless population at bay or you live in a fire hazard area.

Bummer. I think the only thing left for you is have it at home or pay the permit fee. Any way you slice it, though, you definitely want to bring it up the next time your city council meets. Find out the actual "why" of the fee. Go in to argue your point. Back it up with facts.

I know California has a higher cost of living, but still, $60 is a bit much. Looks like you'll either have to serve cold food, or cook it off site.

Remember, crank case cooking is also an option.

I live in CA and that is totally not true. They may charge you to rent a space if you want to reserve a large space because you are having a big party, but picnics and BBQs are free at city parks, or $10. entrance per car, for state parks with no extra rental cost for the picnic tables spaces.

I called and asked. You are not allowed to use a BBQ without a permit. They argue that it is a fire hazard (even at beaches???). The fact that people do it and do not get caught is not the same as it actually being allowed. The cost of the permit may vary based upon various factors, but is absolutely required.
