We realized they were human beings. They've existed since, approximately, the early Russian Empire.

I'm sure they've existed since the dawn of man...what I'm commenting on is the overwhelming number that apparently exist. Probably all that damn soy milk, not to mention the estrogen birth control pills polluting our water supply!
