Welcome to the dumbing down of America, where the very things you describe actually do qualify them to be social and political intellectuals.
Today, instead of having intelligent conversations, most people with opposing views will end up doing nothing more than letting it devolve into name calling.
Currently there is a movement here on imgflip to allow users to filter out political statements like NSFW or GIF posts can be filtered out. As a business, imgflip has to determine what's best for its bottom line. Already political posts are put into submissions purgatory never to see the light of day here. What is your feature ratio? Political posters, those posting strictly political posts, don't appear to have a high feature ratio. I can't think of one over 90%.
It doesn't matter which side of an issue you stand, we are all going to need to be able to back anything we post with proper debate.
If you post something that someone disagrees with, do not be offended that they reply with facts or ask you to cite sources. Make sure your sources are sound. A while back, for example, I èas given a link on how George Soros was funding BLM. The link was from possibly the worst writer on the web. After reading it for a couple minutes, I got disgusted because the writing was nothing more than blathering. The damn URL was more informative than the article. Googled it, found other, better written, articles that gave the same information, but right at the beginning. I came away with the understanding my friend wanted me to get.
Be prepared to discuss intelligently. Name calling can result in comments and posts being flagged for TOS violations. Flagging the person you disagree with may cause his account to be limited, but if it's strictly done out of vindictiveness, a simple feedback form will restore the account by asking for a review of the offending posts. Then offended party ends up with his/her account limited or, if I'm seeing this correctly, suspended for several days. Not just comments, but limits on if they are even allowed to post at all.
