Welfare harms far more than it hurts. I get people need it at times, but its so heavily abused. I think people getting welfare should be required to create a spending plan/budget and stick to it or else they get their welfare revoked

Right you are, it's abused. When we lived in the projects there were 500 units, 300 families were on state or federal aid. That's not an assumption, that was disclosed to me by a rep at the rental office. Some people probably honestly needed help, but when I was leaving for work every morning I would say goodbye to some neighbors who were sitting around talking on their front porch. When I came home the same people were right in the same spot as when I left. Welfare gets to be a vicious cycle when generation after generation is being raised on it.

Library it right though. There are better ways of doing this and the people who are doing are only in it for the money. There have been cases of people being tracked down and killed for crying out against the dreaded flu shot

Drug testing costs way more than it "saves" look it up. It's stupid and the drug testing labs make all the money and usually are friends of someone in government. In any case it's a fool's errand.

Notice how libtard here only comments on the part of the comment that he can make a rhetorical argument against, ignoring the rest of it in which forceful stated that he knew from personal experience that the system is failing those in need. Classic liberal move; Deflect and redirect (-the conversation into territory that distracts from flaws in his beliefs)

Randomly dropping by and giving people a 10$ drug test once in a blue moon costs more money than handing out hundreds and hundreds every month? Only a broken system could pull that off. That doesn't even make sense.
[deleted]
2 ups, 7y
Isn't done like that. They had to go to a certified testing facility where it was handled by professionals in controlled environments. The $10 test kit is a cheap way to weed out drug users, and I've worked for such companies. It's too easy to abuse. Certified facilities, OTOH, make it as difficult, nearly impossible, to fudge that. If you're involved in the transportation industry, I can guarantee that. Employers loved when my name was drawn for a random drug test because they knew I would pass. Even today, with the meds I take, I can still pass them.

No, the tests run about $45, and Florida spent over a quarter million just on the tests and another $1.5 million in legal fees. States that get around it are ones that use probable cause. Still the numbers are low, less than 1% of the tests come back positive.

Can't possibly think of any better way it could be done, libtard? right because the system is absolutely perfect and not worth a little brainstorming to fix the problems it has.
leave it like it is and let the debt keep flying out the window because morons don't want to put forth a little effort to resolve issues.
idiots can't run a business successfully and they can't run a country successfully either.
Vote democrat.

It won't be better with drug testing, that is a simple fact. Better for the drug lab owners, sure. More ways to funnel MORE tax dollars UP. Trickle UP economics work well.

At least poor people SPEND the money they get.

To "fix" the problem" we need to create jobs with LIVABLE wages. And this is not the fault of poor people. We always hear "if taxes are lower, the job creators will make jobs"

Well taxes are REALLY low historically. Corporate profits are at all time highs. The markets have been on fire for years. Productivity is at all time highs....yet wages are stagnate for the average worker while the richest get even richer. When unions were their strongest, the middle class was as well.

Weird. Let's blame the poor people. And vote Republican.

On drug testing: It was determined to be a violation of the recipients constitutional rights to be drug tested without probable cause. In effect for 4 months, only 2.6% of the people tested, 108 for the exact count, failed the test, but there was a stipulation covering those that failed to have a proxie accept the benefits. Meanwhile, the actual testing ran ~$45 each.

Meanwhile, let's focus on those families in Government housing.

One thing most often ignored is that, unless there is a medical condition that prohibits it, each household has to provide x number of hours community service for each adult in the household every month unless they are employed full time or retired due to age. Failure to do so would result in an immediate eviction. I saw a lot of people in the facility I lived in evicted for such. That mandatory community service could be anything from sweeping and mopping the halls, picking up trash around the property, or even helping out by volunteering at a local food bank or soup kitchen. That was federal law, not city or state. So, while it may have looked like the same people did nothing, they did so because they were "unemployable" for health reasons.

Doesn't mean there weren't lazy bums in the facility, but if the complex manager didn't pursue it, it was on him/her.

By the system I meant the welfare system. You know how those 8 men got rich? They worked for it, made sacrafices and made the most of every opportunity they got. The welfare system encouraged people to be inactive in trying to better their own situation. Im not saying the IDEA of welfare is bad, Im sayin how its IMPLEMENTED is bad. People need to be goven incentives to try and get ahead. Thats how capitalism works. It give people incentive AND the opportunity to get agead by working hard. Why do you think people around the world flock to America? Why dont they try to go to Canada or sweden? Because America is theland of opportunity. Do me a favor an go study badic economics
2 ups, 7y
Very well said, H20, My grandfather actually did just that. He was born and raised in a small town in Tuskegee, Alabama. His family was dirt poor, but he always tried to make money by making smart business decisions, and selling things whenever he could. He then attended college, years later, all while working his butt off. He got a good degree, and worked as hard as he could at everything he did in life. Now, he is over 70 years old, an in great shape for his age, due to healthy eating habits. He owns his own ramp making business, and lives on a lake in Georgia. He also owns a room in a condo at myrtle beach, that my family, and I take frequent trips to. His son, my dad is the owner of a portable storage business, that helps me and my siblings have a happy life. All of this came from one poor man who wanted nothing more than to work hard in life.

Study "badic economics huh? ok. anyway, we have done the reagan thing, it does not trickle down. Those 8 men 'earned it? how many roads did they personally pave? schools that their employees were trained from build? How many sewer lines did they get the shovels out for and dig? Somolia has no taxes, no welfare, no gun laws, you would love it there, good luck making a living much less a business though.

Ps. Try and open your mind a little -

Basic*. I would correct your grammar in return, but the mistakes are too numerous to count.
I'll move to somalia if you move to N. Korea- Get a first hand look at socialism in action. Socialism only works in a perfect society with NO GREED. Yet, socialism's sole purpose is to eliminate greed.

And how about you open YOUR mind- quoting one article from a liberal newspaper isn't even close to being informed. You're just another sheep, sorry I can't help you. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to see a socialist leader get elected and run America into the ground because THAT is the only outcome of socialism. It will ALWAYS fail.

Oh, and canadians and swedes DO move here. Omg how f**king blind do you have to be? Or do you just instantly reject anything I say as false?

Okay so its not a huge number.. I was still right. According to your opinion of America that number should be less than 1%. 2% is a lot considering the amount of citizens canada has.
3 ups, 7y
It's actually impossible to say whether or not it saves money. The claim that testing does not save money is based on the number of people who took and failed drug tests. But it is impossible to determine how many people knew they would fail drug tests and chose not to even apply because of it. Testing is a deterrent.
*Hyperbole analogy time*
Let's say I'm using a venomous snake to keep people off my property (which people really, really want on for some reason). Of twenty people why try to come on my property, it only bites one. I would not say that the snake only succeeded at keeping one person off my property. Tons of people would have seen the snake and just decided nope, it's not worth it.

The current drug testing rules are flawed because they require applicants to pay for the test up front (which can prevent those not on drugs, but with genuine need, from applying) and does not include referrals to programs which could help addicts recover.

So...for one drug test it costs more than thousands of dollars of food, clothing, housing, car payments, and gas? Really? No. It does not. Your argument is invalid.

The point is it costs more to test a group of people than what it saves. Your thought process is invalid.

If you don't believe in welfare PERIOD, why even argue the point of testing?
It is sometimes a necessity for people, but should not be a long term situation. Which is why I, personally, favor accountability measures (like drug testing, time limits, ect.)
[deleted]
0 ups, 7y
Because drug testing is practical, something realistic. It's downright impossible to do what I want, to remove it entirely. I'm I not correct?

You are so bad, you are the reason this country has gone stupid. You really are. You're so out of touch with reality. No welfare. None. For anyone. That's the solution. They are lazy, stupid, parasites.

You're assuming that they all like being on welfare. It's not easy to break a cycle of poverty. You're talking about generational oppression and depression, of feeling worthless and being uneducated. Parents show their kids how to survive. I'd like to see Trump come along with his big ideas of keeping the minimum wage low in a society rife with gentrification and elitism, and wave his magic wand and help an entire class of people rise above their station. It's so easy to say cut off welfare and drug test. But the reality is a lot more complicated.
12 ups, 7y
1 up, 7y
And since its so hard we should just let the cycle continue.
Let's stop doing the easy thing and do the right thing. I think its also just as wrong for other people to pay their way through life.
