My company manipulates our holidays for us. They take three of the lesser holidays (MLK, Presidents day, veterans day...I think) and gave us Tues - Thurs off next week. So, if you want the whole week off, you use vacation for that Friday and get 10 days off straight.

Our company also takes MLK from us. We are still paid for it but have work and use te day within the same month.

That's weird. I have mixed feelings about it. My kids are all grown, but if I had kids in school I would want those days off that they have throughout the year. Plus, it's nice to have a three day weekend every once and a while.

The nursing home here does something similar. When you work a job that is ALWAYS open, or like you trucks never really stop making runs someone has to work it. It's good that you at least get a good bonus for it though!

My son-in-law gets paid TRIPLE PAY for working any federal holiday. He's already making $80k and has told my daughter that he plans to work every holiday. She isn't complaining but her mom (my wife) sure is since they live out of state.
