Protests are not illegal.
Freedom of speech & right to assemble are enshrined by the 1st Ammendment.
The Founding Fathers fought the Revolution in order to establish this right.

I am not quite sure you get the joke. Of course the protest is necessary. Right now, a lot of people are screaming that protests are illegal and calling those who participate "criminals". Same during Civil Rights movement.
