You could add this meme (the OP) into the DisneyKilledStarWars memestream. It would be a good fit. :)

I agree. Far better than 1 to 3, although 3 was alright.

Captures the spirit of the originals, and while the new Darth Vader may not seem one to fill his shoes, that's the point. It would be rather difficult to do so, and some might consider such an attempt heresy. So the suave man-boy filled with self doubt that intereferes with his cockiness is a good play, plus it leaves room for growth. After a couple of movies, fans may be more pleased as he develops.

Plus lets face it, how many of the 'disappointed' fans WON'T shell out the bucks for future chapters in the saga?

That's a good point.

Funny, I actually saw the first in 1977 in a theater,
Didn't see this one till it was on cable, and silly me, didn't notice the identical-ness.
But I must say, Luke is much prettier now, and Solo dying this time around yadda yadda yadda,,,

That's what JJ does. He pirates a story and makes some character swaps to make himself feel better. Han took Obi-Wan's place as the wise old man who allows himself to be killed. Fin is the new Han. Luke actually got split into two people: Rey and the fighter pilot whose name I can't remember. Etc. Etc. But the basic story of a robot off in the desert with important intelligence on a superweapon that befriends a poor teen to get the info where it needs to go is quite familiar. I watched 4 alot as a kid. And then of course they meet the wisened old man whose experience gets them where they need to go before allowing himself to be killed. And they even grabbed a bit from the beginning of V because Luke is the new Yoda.

The fighter pilot's name, correct me if I'm wrong, is Poe Dameron.

In all honesty, it did become apparant to me after seeing your meme, I just wanted to be an itch about it. Sorry, haha.
I said Luke was prettier because it was simpler to say than tossing the other one in.

However, it may be said that what's-his-name renegade stormtrooper (I'm bad with names, don't remember any of them) has aspects of Solo also,
And Luke is the new Obi Wan in a sense too.

Buuuuuuut, how much more can be done given the parameters of their universe?
And the basic theme is the old archetypal reluctant young hero finds master and transforms to rescue the world from the clutches of evil. We've seen this recipe used from classic Greek theater to old Swashbuckling films to Kung Fu movies as well and it is known that Lucas followed this theme by design as well,,,

Ironically I stumbled onto what I thought would have been a much more interesting and deep story in a discussion about Thor's Hammer (the avengers thor, not the SG1 thor).
I was positing that the hammer required someone who had a very powerful dark side and a very powerful light side to balance it. Sort of like that TOS episode where Kirk got split in two by the transporter. Your strength and battle prowess come from your dark side, and the will to use it correctly comes from the light side. I thought the reason Tony couldn't was because he didn't have a dark side (He hates fighting and has come to see the suit as a prison). Cap couldn't because he doesn't trust himself to reign in his dark side. Vision could because the jewel is evil and Jarvis is good. Basically the hammer wants someone can walk the line right between.
So I was telling a friend of mine this and he went 'oh so like a grey jedi?' And after he explained it (proud trekkie here) I thought that could make a fascinating story. What if the force doesn't care about balance, but there is this group of grey jedi who've been maneuvering the two sides for their own reasons? Sort of like Asimov's secret foundation. What if the main characters stumble on this and now their running from Jedi who have all the powers of both sides and a confusing set of morals? That could have made a hell of a story.

Sorry, didn't get back to this.

The thing is it's all about the archetypal battle between good and evil, so both are (albiet not entirely realistically) clearly dileneated.
Although Darth Vader was beset by the moral conflict between the two, and went to the dark side for the sake of what he thought was good. So he tread the grey in between, granted haphazardly. Hence, he did encompass what you say in a way. Not behind the scenes, orchestrating, but at the forefront as the the chief agent of it.
Plus the average movie fan, like most people, is not prone to indulging such scenarios. A two dimensional myopic world view is difficult enough for folks to consider,,,

The renegade stormtrooper's name is FN-2187, or Finn.
