I agree with the first two portions in the title of the meme, but do you consider an unemployment check "welfare"?

I ask because I actually had someone say that he didn't apply for unemployment when he got laid off and was eligible for it. I think that's just plain ignorant. If you've worked for X number of years, you've paid into it with every paycheck, hence the term "unemployment insurance".

UI compensation is something paid in when you work so its only a cushion for a short time when you aren't , so it is something you earned. The bad part is Unlike welfare , you only get to draw it for so many weeks and you don't get anymore, or if you move to another state looking for work, you can't draw it from the state you worked in so you get screwed like me...you get nothing!

Yep, there are alot of loopholes for sure.

I retired from thr Marine Corps but it took a few months to find a job. I looked into getting UI and they told me "Well, you chose to leave the service." All I could think was "Riiight, I've done 22 years, my knees are shot, etc, and this is the way we're treated?" I think that they've since changes that law, but it sucked at the time.
