Unfortunately, until the GOP accepts the need for a single-payer system, that's how it's going to be. Right now it's an example of The Market working exactly like it should: (most) buyers don't pay any more when the cost of the product goes up, there are no price controls in effect, and so sellers are free to charge whatever price they wish.
Remember: about 20% of private insurance costs go toward overhead like shareholder dividends; about 3% of Medicare funds go toward overhead. The single-payer system with price controls is a better deal for consumers.
