I've never watched The Walking Dead and don't care to...Zombies are stupid!

The sub genre of science fiction known as post apocalyptic sci-if is a pretty popular literary form. One famous novel about people surviving after an apocalyptic event is the 1959 novel "Alas Babylon". It centers on a small town in central Florida after a nuclear war has fried the major cities in Florida. Post apocalypse stories are pretty much speculative anthropology. Lots of people are fascinated by it, and judging by the fact that Walking Dead is the most popular TV show in history, the genre is thriving.

The zombies are just there to center a story around. Much like the "flu" in Stephen King's "The Stand" or an attacking army. The hook in the show is character's with certain qualities everyone can relate to. Because there is a group there is always someone in the group to relate to. Its a good show and the way that you know it is, is because you could replace the zombies with a dozen other situations, and it would still hold up. Its worth the watch, but you have to watch a few to start understanding the characters and their roles.

You do realise that the plot of the story is about how people adapt to an apocalypse rather than just "Ahh, zombies!". Maybe you would know that if you watched it.
