I UNDERSTAND that he made a great contribution to the English language. But do we REALLY need to read the original 400-year-old plays in high school? I mean, plays are meant to be WATCHED, not read.

Maybe he could've just forgotten the questionmark, i'm not sure. maybe he was a brilliant man and mindf**ked us with his quote. you can go on forever questioning his quote, what's basicly the point of this brilliant sentence...

Well, the context is the play Hamlet, in which the character Hamlet is contemplating suicide, because he has such a hard life. He's wondering if it's nobler to face his problems and die trying or to end his own life.
