The Rock Driving For Uber

I was just reading about that. Goodness, they're hurting BAD. They already pulled out of China. I have no car and the buses stopped running where I live. I need to go to the market and I was thinking about calling UBER. I'm just not sure how their system works

I think the taxi drivers are blocking them.

Yes - depending on the town. I generally support unions, but if the drivers' unions make me pay more for transport by blocking UBER's entry into a market then bugger 'em. For all the complaints about taxi drivers losing good paying jobs I have to point out that if I have to pay a taxi $30 to get home versus $10 for an UBER driver then that's putting a dent in my hard-earned income.

My friend will call UBER if we're out past the last bus run and they work well for that. Cheaper than a taxi and we get a car usually within a few minutes. But I live in Portland which is the kind of 'progressive' town UBER targets. They pulled out of China because the government there was intent on propping up their local version of it, and I think UBER got a percentage ownership of that company. I think UBER is pulling an Amazon by forgoing profits and taking losses in the hopes of gaining market share. I think it's too well planned out for it to disappear soon.
