On a scientific proven aspect, evolution is actually only proven at the point of diversification within the family classification. Changes beyond the family classification can really not be scientifically proven. DNA for example, the similarities we see can be explained by just the environment we live in. Living under the same sun, needing similar nutrients, drinking similar substances, the overall environments being about the same, all of this can account for the similarities. Just like when people say that they cannot believe in God because they cannot see, touch, hear, taste, or smell Him, the same can be said for evolution beyond the family classification. With fossils, we see what we want to see when they look for similarities and transitions. There is a possibility for both science and religion to coincide with each other, it is just getting both parties to be willing to let that take place and see what parts can actually explain each other.
