Nice!!! I knew some would. I don't really remember little Oscar though. Either I'm getting too old, or not quite old enough. I'll go with the latter just because :)

Lol!! I was so young when I saw him--didn't even know why I was there--but remember him so vividly and being struck as to how "small" he was. Guess I had never seen a midget before :)

Which was the night before the tobacco bowl football game. Geez, could you imagine any of that now? We went on a 3rd grade field trip to a tobacco farm!!! I still remember how much I loved the smell of the tobacco leaf they gave each of us!

That's Johnny Roventini. He was the spokesman for Philip Morris cigarettes: a role that allowed him to live well. He actually played on I Love Lucy, who was sponsored by PM.

There were several "Little Oscars" going around the country: as many as 4 at one time, but Johnny never worked for them.

First little person I ever met was a class mate of my sister. He was her square dance partner in sixth grade.

He grew up and was involved in show business, eventually playing a role in the movie Young Doctors in Love, and then, for a few episodes, Carence the cook on Happy Days.
If you were in the Chicago/ Midwest area, you probably saw George Molchan. If you were a kid before the 1950s, then you saw Meinhardt Rabbe.

Just a "little" history.

I love when Thanksgiving rolls around a WGN plays their local shows retrospective. I live about 2 hours East of the Windy city.

We were in Virginia, I remember my dad yelling out to Johnny during the parade. Since Richmond was essentially just a big Phillip Morris plant by the late 60s, Johnny was pretty much treated like a king. Great history, its always more fun when someone has a personal connection to it.

Yeah, that would have been Johnny. Like Oscar Meyer, OM also had other "Johnny's" but

Roventeni was the official one for radio and TV.

Yes, I think that's him. I just now laughed so hard reading your comment--field trip to a tobacco farm and giving you each your own leaf--hilarious!!

Well, I am assuming Richmond, VA, so makes sense for back in the day. BTW, you should submit your meme cuz there's enough of us that remember those commercials.

I thought about it. I already submitted a couple this morning. My timing has been horrible since I returned. Either that or my memes have been :)

Yes, mine aren't doing good at all lately--slid right off the leaderboard--lol :).
But, I still enjoy seeing others' and commenting on them.

It always came and went in waves it seemed like for me, a couple really good weeks and then a couple so-so months :) Its okay though, the real fun is in the threads. One good meme-off with another user makes you forget a bad week of meme-making :)

The old radio spots featured a hotel Bellboy calling out "Call For Phillip Mor-Ace".
That's also embrodered on his jacket in the photo here.
