What, the only way to be elite is to win National Championships?

Elite would be winning your own conference on a consistent basis. Especially if that conference is better known for basketball. (If we are still talking about the ACC and Clemson at this point.)

I agree to some extent. Take your ACC basketball example, Duke and NC. They are elite programs. Losing the conference ain’t going to matter to those two as far as being elite. Kentucky is an elite program whether or not it wins the SEC. Bama, Georgia, Fla are all elite football programs, but only one will come home with the trophy. So, I would venture to say if you are ranked in the top 10-15 year after year in either sport you are an elite program. And by year after year, I mean recent years, not like Michigan football fans who talk smack to us Spartys, “Well over the last 100 years…” when we’ve dominated them over the last 10 or so LOL!

I think being in the ACC and winning the conference consistently is exactly what makes them elite.. UNC does not win the ACC banner any given year, they are still an elite program. If UNC had only won 2 ACC titles in 24 years, then they would not be an elite program. The would be NC State! LOL.. I'm no big 10 fan, but I have a lot of respect for the Spartys... not so much for Michigan...or underachiever U as I call them. GA and FL are NOT elite programs.. GA especially... GA is going to get pasted by UNC in the opener. Neither GA nor FL have done much for the last decade.
