I downloaded it, I'll have to figure it out. It seems like you can make really quality stuff, just with a lot more time involved. When I have more time I plan on figuring it out. I am just used to this format and this new one has a gif animations feature I also want to figure out. I learn best just doing it on my own with trial and error. It takes time but once I figure it out I own it. I didn't even know a thing about any of this a few months ago, I'm still learning but I'm having fun with it ;)

Gimp seems to be able to do near anything - I've only scratched the surface. It wasn't that tough to learn how to do some of the simpler edits but did take some time. I'm lazy but once I decided to do it (was a response meme for here that motivated me) I loved the creative freedom it gave me. I should do more with it but again, I'm lazy and the good pieces take time - only to end up lost in the shuffle when submitted lol

My main problem is the search feature, my imageflip picture folder is so big it takes forever for me to load an image. I guess I need to go through it and delete some stuff or transfer things into smaller folders. It's froze on me a few times loading stuff lol. The editing features are more advanced for sure, I'm just not used to it and they seem time consuming but better. I can whip out an image on the other one in a matter of minutes, where gimp seems like it might take a couple hours. I'm pretty good with the one I'm used to. But if I ever want to make a real photo shop picture that looks completely real gimp is the way to go. Like you said just not sure if it's worth the work for a meme. I do plan on using it though. When I have time and an idea for it hits me.

I made this yesterday on toolpic, it took about 10 minutes, I could have spent more time on it, especially around the hand by her face, but it worked for the meme comment I used it for. Just an example, I've just found that when commenting and such being fast is better.

This is one of my better ones. I did this in a few hours but was learning everything needed to do it along the way.

On a side note, when I do put time into a creation I do it more for me than anything. I like to share it with the rest of you all but if I could learn how to do this in 10 minutes or less? My comments would be much better for sure.

That's some mighty fine editing! I saw that a while back and liked it then, The work around the hand and the chocolate bar by the face is flawless! I could make that in 10 minutes but it wouldn't look that good. I'd have to zoom in big time to erase around the edges and that takes more time than just using the fading erase option and blurring the lines a bit. I feel the same it's fun making them and a truly enjoy it. If I make a meme out of it and people enjoy it that's awesome, but I don't lose the enjoyment I got from making it if it only gets a few upvotes. I photo my family on facebook into all sorts of funny situations, I think they might secretly hate me at times lol.
