And when the BLM idiots (domestic terrorists) claim police are "hunting" black men, trust me ... they're not. IF THEY WERE, all black men would be wiped out in just a few days.

Try this ... don't break the laws set up by the politicians your society elected.

But we know -- but, America, we know that bias remains. We know it. Whether you are black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or of Middle Eastern descent, we have all seen this bigotry in our own lives at some point. We’ve heard it at times in our own homes. If we’re honest, perhaps we’ve heard prejudice in our own heads and felt it in our own hearts. We know that. And while some suffer far more under racism’s burden, some feel to a far greater extent discrimination’s sting. Although most of us do our best to guard against it and teach our children better, none of us is entirely innocent. No institution is entirely immune. And that includes our police departments. We know this.

And so when African Americans from all walks of life, from different communities across the country, voice a growing despair over what they perceive to be unequal treatment; when study after study shows that whites and people of color experience the criminal justice system differently, so that if you’re black you’re more likely to be pulled over or searched or arrested, more likely to get longer sentences, more likely to get the death penalty for the same crime; when mothers and fathers raise their kids right and have “the talk” about how to respond if stopped by a police officer -- “yes, sir,” “no, sir” -- but still fear that something terrible may happen when their child walks out the door, still fear that kids being stupid and not quite doing things right might end in tragedy -- when all this takes place more than 50 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act, we cannot simply turn away and dismiss those in peaceful protest as troublemakers or paranoid. (Applause.) We can’t simply dismiss it as a symptom of political correctness or reverse racism. To have your experience denied like that, dismissed by those in authority, dismissed perhaps even by your white friends and coworkers and fellow church members again and again and again -- it hurts. Surely we can see that, all of us.

funny, in all this, I don't see any discussion of "personal responsibility" or the rampant criminality in the/by the black community. The fact that blacks are pretty much responsible for their own circumstances. I live in a multiracial community, mostly white. We never see police. There's no need for it. We simply don't have the kind of violence and criminality that you see the rioting communities. We're too busy being responsible, and working, and raising our kids, to be criminal and riot. Oh and by the way, perhaps these rioters should ask why they have problems in these cities which have been run by Democrats for DECADES. The last Republican Mayor in Detroit was 1962. In Chicago, you have to go back to the 1930s. And it goes on and on. The same Party that's turned cities into seething, boiling masses of poverty and violence wants to cast the blame on everyone else but themselves for the situation that exists. Until there is some honesty from the black community about their own behaviors in terms of children, crime, instead of burning down the local Walgreen's and demanding more handouts, you'll get a deaf ear from most of America.

He said a lot more than that. Read it all. And if you think one section of one speech was able to create/increase racial tensions you're either giving him way too much credit or you (that feel racial tension increased because of it) and those like you aren't stable.
0 ups
That he said more is irrelevant. I'm not saying that he was incorrect in making those statements, just in the time and place. These statements should NEVER have been said at a memorial speech to the dead police officers. It was the wrong venue. It made it sound like he was saying the killer was justified.

Exactly. Seeing that there are rogue cops out there re-educating cops about the diversity of local neighborhoods can be a good thing. On the other hand I believe that every early teenage male, no matter what color, should be taught by a grown adult how to act or not to act in the presence of an officer. Be it a father or a big brother or a school councilor. When my son was old enough to drive I had a talk with him about respecting the law and the people who uphold it.

I think of this every time I see someone bringing justice down on themselves. All society asks, is that they play nice. Too stupid to take advantage of the opportunities that people before them fought for.

Pointing a gun at anyone is a crime. Pointing a gun at someone makes the criminal an immediate danger.

Have you ever seen the movie Copycat? In it, an experienced FBI agent is partnered with a rookie. The experienced agent tells her partner to aim for the shoulder instead of going for a kill shot so the perp can be questioned later. Toward the end of the movie, a criminal is aiming a gun at her rookie partner and she shoots the guy in the shoulder. The bad guy picks up the gun with his other hand and kills the rookie partner with it. If that were real, I guarantee she would never again go for a shoulder shot.

That was a movie, but it demonstrates the very real danger that a police officer faces when confronted by an armed criminal pointing a gun at you.
