It works both ways. In the 90s, I worked for AT&T. A lot of Spanish Speaking customers called in on the English line. The company actually trained us to day the equivilant of please hold while I connect you to their question, "Espanol?"
Always good with accents, I soon was able to say "Por favor, espara, uno momento voya connectarlo." I was able to say it so well, callers thought I spoke Spanish. I had a friend teach me how to handle it: "Señora, no habla Espanol! Soy Gringo." We'd always get a good laugh as I'd transfer her. And, yes, in 6 years, I never had a male call the English language line to speak to a Spanish speaking rep.
