By arming yourself and refusing to be a victim of robbery, murder , or assault you can be part of the solution instead of being a statistic...of either a criminal or a terrorist. Dont drink the democratic koolaid . I worry more about going to the doctor because doctors kill more people than guns do !

Blaming Guns for what criminals and nut jobs use them for is like blaming cars for drunk drivers killing people with them. The USA faces threats from crime, terrorists foreign and domestic,and Illegal drug cartels. All I want is a chance to defend myself should the need arise. My daughter recently received her CCW and doesn't leave the house unarmed. She's got me considering purchasing a weapon as well.

I would say the every mass killing in the US for the last century has one thing in common: mental illness. From the Bath Michigan massacre to Sandy Hook to yesterday's shootings.

SCOTUS, in finally making a decision on gun rights, confirmed there are two classes of American citizens that do not have second amendment rights: convicted felons and mentally ill. The NRA doesn't want to come up with a solution to refrain those groups from purchasing a weapon. Eben Adam Lanza, with his known mental problems, could have purchased a weapon, but instead, chose to use his mother's arsenal.

Now, in the cases I've cited, can you name one mass killing where the shooter was of sound mind?

I was just discussing the issue , I have no horse. I acknowleged that we have terrorists both foreign and domestic in the USA. what you dont seem to realize is There are only 2 types of Muslims, Those who want you dead and those that will stand and watch or help hold you down so IMHO that is a threat to our way of living and not a religion of Peace. I do not know where you heard the NRA doesnt want a solution , since we members supported Background checks for purchasers that hasn't worked either.Criminals do not abide by the law anyway so it is only law abiding citizens that are always getting the short end of the stick and a lot is the revolving door justice system. The Mental health issue is problematic in as far as who diagnoses it and what the actual problem is., especially where it concerns veterans and PTSD and their rights to own a gun when we trusted them with firepower beyond what we citizens can dream only about. No system is perfect and with most of these shooters being on anti-depressant drugs etc. there is no way to tell if someone snaps until they do. The Guy that killed the cops in Dallas had no known mental problems, he was just angry . My point is we Can Hope for the Best , but be prepared for the worst is our best option as Law abiding Citizens.

I'm glad your daughter is taking responsibility for the family's security, but you have to realize comparing "Washington DC" and "The Wild West" give you approx. zero credibility. Those two couldn't be further from the truth. It's like when the media calls a crime scene a "war zone." Uh no, a war zone looks like a war zone. There are good people out there trying to do good things. Try not to buy into the media's insane drama, it's only going to hold you back from also doing what's right.

Now I understand your anger. I WS using the two as contrast of civilization. The wild west was actually civilized under their own code of ethics which confused Easterners. Move forward, DC is supposed to be a civilized area, but that would not explain the highurdet rates it has had over the last few decades, in particular, the difference in the murder rate before and after DC vs Heller. Still, DC is very uncivilized. Maybe it'd have a chance if it got rid of all the crooked politicians and only kept the three or four reasonably honest ones.

Funny, my daughter offered to help me get up to speed on firearms. It's been about 34 years since I last shot one. I'll have to wear my glasses cause I'm nearsighted in my right eye and shoot right handed.
