Trains never operate in the black without huge subsidies. That train would cost more than a plane ticket and would take days to cross the US.

How long would it take for a maglev to cross the East Coast? Maybe it might cost more than a plane ticket... but consider after a while they could maintain it easily. :)

We don't have cities designed for centralized hub commuting. The train, while cool, would run in the red being only a novelty service.
If we can't even maintain streets, money to subsidies yet another mass transport will be hard to generate.
