Some times if they dont have a verrified account, or just site seers, they cant vote or comment. So you may get lots of views but no votes. Same if you share on fb, you may get 10k views but noone can vote or comment. Hope that helps

I think that views somehow fit into the equation of what gets on the front page as well.

I don't think you get any points for views. Newer users get points for voting on memes, but that stops after a while. :)
