Is there some reason for this that I don't know about?

people still associate a projected identity with their chosen name. "anonymous" is for when you are really terrified of what random strangers on the internet will think of you

I chose the username "Raydog" because it was an old Navy nickname...I didn't start personifying it with dog pics until way later. Me personally, if a meme makes me have to worry about what others will think of me, it probably is better left unsubmitted...That being said, I don't downvote anonymous memes, even when they are trashing me, but as a golden rule, I will NOT upvote them.

Cool. I had a "no duh" moment recently. Pertaining to the old "what page of the recent do your memes land on" debate, why do anonymous memes hit the top of the first page of the recents?

You know when you submit a meme, and it says, "Sharing your meme will make it more likely to reach the home page" (or similar)?

I wonder if it's people who generate the meme anonymously on imgflip, then share the meme to another site (eg, Reddit). That might put it higher up in the Latest stream, so it gets more views.

I don't really know though - I'm just guessing. I find it frustrating.

EXACTLY! I saw one last night, anonymous, less than an hour old on the recents, and it had over 1,600 views already? How does that happen, honestly?

Yeah Acuity12 mentioned awhile back that when a redditor uses imgflip to create a meme, they sometimes post them here anonymously at the top of the latest as a way of promoting the imgflip meme generator and generating traffic. At least I think that's what he said...LOL

A meme created and shared prior to submitting. How long I guess depends on the thread it was submitted to and its popularity would be my guess .

Yes, I realized that myself after I posted that comment. (Another "no duh" moment on my part.) If a user submits a meme that was used as a comment then that meme could have hundreds or thousands of views.

Sometimes you might want to voice an unpopular opinion or troll, maybe. I made 1 anonymous meme, in which I said what my username was for comic effect. Aside from that, I'd never use them.

A lot of them are troll users, so they post them anonymously because they know if they posted it with their username, they would get downvoted into oblivion.
