I've watched it. It's so strange, I honestly couldn't tell you whether or not you're right. (Also, what was up with Lidsville, the land of living hats?)
But I was talking about the song "Puff, the Magic Dragon"
I grew up hearing "Puff the Magic Dragon" on the radio. AM radio, before FM was even common. I really never listened to the lyrics enough to know what it meant. I know about the inferred drug references in the movie, "Meet the Parents" and when I listened to it again I did kind of feel that there may be a reference but I couldn't say for sure. It is funny to think so though.
Now, H.R. Puff and Stuff was a total chem filled drugfest. LOL
"H.R. Pufnstuf
Who's your friend when things get rough?
H.R. Pufnstuf
Can't do a little 'cause he can't do enough" Yep! Good old Hand Rolled PuffnStuff.....
The fine art of allegory may include both intended and unintended meaning. One has to be open to various interpretations, be they palatable or not. The song is merely about a dragon...allegedly...
Please explain the interpretation you are using to say it's about masterbation. I an genuinely curious, because I don't see how it can be interpreted that way.
This subject actually came up in a radio interview with the writers I heard years ago. The concept was about how young men "come of age", leaving the impractical aspects of fantasy life for the maturation of authentic character. While I was offering humor, there is genuine substance to this allegory of the lyrics.. I hope this offers insight and not merely more confusion.
