I am so stupid! I have seen the leaderboard and the points along side, but never knew until today that the points reflected for one week. After one year I have still not figured out the point system that this site uses. thanks bro, I learned something today!

No problem man, its actually on a 7day rolling cycle, not really weekly.

I don't know exactly how points work.. but I know that comment threads boost them far and above regular upvotes to the meme. I think more points are generated there.

Oh for sure, comments amass more points than submissions. The point system promotes activity in the threads more than the submissions although frontpagers because of the comments the generate can be huge.

Upvotes are cool and always appreciated in that someone enjoyed the meme, but the real fun for me is looking at the hilarious comments and comment memes, or even reading and participating in the discussions that some memes generate. ;)

True that, I tend to look at the points as a measure of how much someone is contributing, since the really is the only way to get them.
