I'll be damned if I know how some memes get views and others don't. Your Wheel of Fortune is as good an explanation as I've seen: totally random!

It could just be who happens to be online at the time it features. If it gets some upvotes early on, it's seen by enough people to keep it going up, if people like it. If it doesn't get those first few votes though, it can just disappear down into the Latest pages. Not all users check that far down the Latest pages, I don't think.

I think you're right. It's all in the timing.

I agree with Socrates, I also think its pretty important to get a comment or 2 early, it seems to slow people down and get it a few more views, after that its the strength of the meme that counts.

Yes it does feel like chance...I've seen memes on the front page that made absolutely no sense, people were making comments about it not making sense, I guess they upvoted it for being ridiculous...

How did you make this?

I found a wheel of fortune image, then I colored in the writing that was on it, then I put the imgflip sign in the center, then i added my writing, then I saved several copies of the image with the wheel in different positions, then I uploaded the images in sequential order into the gif generator here, then adjusted the size and speed with the imgflip gif generator
