I'm glad my parents were never like this.

Neither were mine, it's just a little jab at mfs who are all like "cars are freedom, trains are socialist tyranny" or whatever.

Taking a train instead of a car gives you freedom from having to find a place to park your car.

People who are against trains think it takes away from their "freedom" that a car gives them but car drivers get stuck in traffic all the time which is even more of a problem for them when they need the bathroom. On inter city long distance passenger trains you can go to the bathroom on the train any time you want and you can even go to the restaurant car and eat and even get drunk and even go to sleep on the train, all of that you can't do in a car and need to find a bathroom, restaurant and motel to shell out cash to if you want to piss, shit, eat or sleep.

Nice description. The only way any form of transportation takes away your freedom is when you are forced to use it, either by the threat of violence or because no other methods are available.
