It took me most of the summer one year at summer camp to cut a ~2 inch branch with a .22 rifle at an outdoor range.

I think they doled out 10 bullets and a target at a time. At the start on my campaign, I came back with an empty target and got questioned about it. After that, I would devote one or two shots of the round to the branch to not raise further suspicion.

Sneak a 12 guage onto the range - When it 'pruning' a branch, they work !
