I know it is. We had a cat who had gotten a heart worm early in life apparently because he got fleas early on and we lived on a ground level apartment. That was in early 90's so flea treatments then were a bit different and I was only 11 in '91. At an older age he started getting pretty fat and of course weight loss wasn't working but it wasn't realized that he likely got a heartworm as a kitten from fleas plus he was originally a stray. He only lived to be 10 because of this. Now heartworm is better understood in cats but it was a bit different then. This cat likely has something based on the level of fat it is so I know it's sad to see.
