Yeah me too. It's only when something repeatedly happens that you eventually can't help it. Difference then becomes what type of person you already are. Whether you are a "speaking my mind" or "holding myself back" type, roughly speaking.
The U.S is filled with the first kind compared to the rest of the west, where we keep our prejudice inside more often for politeness. My impression is that people experience raw racism most often when no one's around

Awesome. If we had that attitude, we'd be better at spotting racism when it's really there, and our minds would be calmer when discussing it. Everyone could have in mind that "I'm sorry that you seem to have bad experiences with people like me, but I'm another person and not like them". If the peron doesn't care, they're lost to hate
