I’ll give it to Far Cry 2. That’s a fantastic game.

And even Sonic Frontiers is a good time.

I’ve played Need for Speed Payback. It was pretty fun but still bland. I completely forgot I played it until you mentioned The Crew. Is that anything like it?

I’ve never played need for speed but if it’s an open world game where you can drive a bunch of different types of vehicles then yeah

depends, what do you define as open-world? Games like Hollow Knight and Super Mario 64 are open, but you seem to be talking about large 3d games with one single overworld.

I have played Dark Souls and Banjo-Kazooie. Which I wouldn’t really consider open worlds despite having connected level design.

Why not?

-Non-linear progression system
-Mostly allowed to explore

I think that those really are the only things a game needs to be defined as open-world
1 up, 1y
Dead Space has the same things yet it’s entirely linear. It gives you plenty of room to explore.

Not so much nonlinear progression system, as nonlinear missions. So in a way, Dark Souls could be considered open world since you can complete bosses and areas out of order.

I played AC Origins for 3 hours and the words generic and boring do not even begin to describe the experience.

why do you even think open world games suck

Most of them are extreme time holes with pointless filler to pad out the runtime. In the time it takes to finish one mediocre open world, I could have played 5-6 awesome single player linear games.

Maybe it’s just the case with open world games past 2015, but almost all of the ones I’ve played (Horizon Zero Dawn, Rage 2, Far Cry 5 & Primal) have been bland, soulless, bloated worlds with zero real substance.

I do want to play GTA San Andreas. I own it, maybe it’s actually good, idk.

When people tell me that Starfield gets good after 12 hours, it immediately turns me off. I could just go play a good 12 hour game instead.

gta san andreas is actually good, it's the best in the series. I've been playing it since 2016 and I didn't even get bored.
