You can wear a surgical mask, wash your hands thoroughly, do social-distancing, (etcetera) and still get sick. It's inevitable unless you live in a bunker or a private island.

Most people have already caught the virus in 2020/2021 and we got over it. I was even one of the first people who possibly caught SARS in 2002 at the age of 6 and it was brief. A few elders in my family died later in early 2003 because they had pre-existing conditions and were heavy smokers.

I know how a mask works. Masks are more effective at keeping germs in than keeping germs out. I’m saying that in 2023, you either can have immunity from a trusted vaccine, or if you already had it in the past year. And literally over half the United States has (almost full) immunity, so the virus hasn’t spread anywhere since the beginning of 2023. Unless there’s news of a new variant that is rapidly spreading, the virus more than likely isn’t gonna get you unless you get a lot of company.
My only time I’d actually wear a mask personally in 2023 would be if I know I could or do have it.
