Show us some of that cool African Fairy Tales. Instead of making the Little Mermaid black, why don't you look up the folklore about the fresh water fairy tale from Brazil? It's just similar enough to get you something to work with, just different enough to not be derivative.
Tons of stuff from other countries. All you have to do is hire or train good writers and boom-instant cash!

Give it the MCU treatment, there's a lot of convoluted storylines to get through, but you can work it out.
